The Merriam Drainage District of Johnson County, Kansas (MDD) was established by Johnson County as a taxing district in 1946 to maintain the portion of Turkey Creek that travels through the city of Merriam, Kansas and a small portion of Shawnee, Kansas. Turkey Creek is also managed by other organizations where it travels through other cities, both upstream and downstream from Merriam.
